Dear Authors,

As stipulated in the Rules of International bibliographic database SCOPUS, an article submitted to a scientific journal is to contain the list of bibliographical sources – References – being transliterated. Thus, two variants of References are to be made up. The first one is to comply with the requirements ДСТУ ГОСТ 7.1:2006 «Бібліографічний запис, бібліографічний опис. Загальні вимоги та правила складання», the second – with the international standard given below. Given as a separate unit References are to duplicate the Ukrainian or Russian list regardless the usage of English sources. If the English sources have been used, they are rewritten in References. As to foreign bibliographical sources, unlike English ones, they are to be given in English or transliterated by means of Roman alphabet, not Cyrillic one.

  1. It is necessary to substitute the symbols «//» and «–» for commas as well as traditional quotation marks (« ») for inverted commas (“ ”) in the text transliterated.
  2. Each transliterated source title (name of article, book, journal, conference) is to be in italic and followed by its English translation in square brackets.
  3. Place of publishing is not given abbreviated (e.g. «Kyiv», not «К.»).
  4. Output data (pages, toms, issues, number) is to be given in English without transliteration. So, «p.» or «pp.» are used instead of «s.» (e.g. 123 p. or рр. 1-12), «vol.», «issue» and «no.» instead of «т.» (tom), «вип.» (issue) and «№» (number) respectively.
  5. numerals (for example, in conference names) are to be replaced by the Arable numerals or written in words (Second or 2nd instead of II).
  6. Type of publishing is not to be stated when dealing with textbooks and manuals.
  7. Source description is to include all authors’ name; it is not the matter of abridgement.
  8. Year of publication is to be stated in brackets at the beginning of the description, right after the author’s name (the most common variant).
  9. Date of access to electronic sources is to be given.
  10. sources in References are given alphabetically (Roman alphabet). For instance: 1. Cole M. Cultural Psychology… 2. Vygotskii L.S. Psikhologiia iskusstva..., Unlike Ukrainian or Russian variants: 1. Виготський Л.С. Психологія мистецтва… 2. Коул М. Психологія культури…

Optional notations

  1. stating the name of publishing house it is better to add «Publ.». If there is no an official version of the name in English, it is to be transliterated.
  2. Source language of the reference can be added in brackets at the end, e.g. (In Russian), (In Ukrainian). Information about the abstract translation into English can be given as well, e.g. (In Russian; abstract in English).

Some pieces of advice

  1. a bibliographical source is stated in English, especially being listed in the international scientometric database, there is no need for its transliterating.
  2. If there is an official version of the journal name in English (usually given on the website), it is to be given in References without its translating from Ukrainian or Russian.
  3. If there is a chance to find an original edition of the English source, it is better to be stated.
  4. If there is no author’s name stated (in case of collected materials, collective monograph), the name of one or two editors is to be given.
  5. The names of dissertations, patents, reports, legal and regulatory acts and other non-typical sources for citing can be translated into English, not transliterated. The source language is to be stated in brackets, e.g. (In Russian) or (In Ukrainian)
  6. If the document is not published, this information can be added to the description. For example, if there is an author the word (Unpublished) is added, if not – (Unpublished Source) or (Unpublished Report).
  7. If there is a publication with doi, it is to be stated at the end of description.
